The Federal Government does not require the endorsement of Muhammadu Sanusi II, the Emir of Kano, for its admirable policies that are improving the lives of Nigerians, according to Alhaji Mohammed Idris, Minister of Information and National Orientation.
The minister made this claim in a statement on Thursday in Abuja.
According to the minister, Sanusi has the same unalienable right as every other Nigerian to voice their thoughts about the way the government is being run, whether they be praise or criticism.
But we think it’s funny that a leader—especially one from a place that values honesty, equity, and justice—would openly acknowledge that he or she chose not to speak the truth out of self-interest based on fictitious hostility.
In order to address long-standing economic issues, Nigeria is at a critical juncture where strong and audacious measures are required.
“This administration has carried out revolutionary reforms, as he, Sanusi, had always argued, not because they are simple but because they are necessary to ensure Nigeria’s long-term stability and development.
As Sanusi himself admitted, the short-term suffering brought on by these unavoidable choices is more than anything else a necessary byproduct of decades of careless economic management.
These changes are already producing quantifiable results. Because of the increased investor confidence brought about by the unification of currency rates, Nigeria’s foreign reserves have grown and its ability to withstand external economic shocks has improved.
“A lot of resources have been made available by the removal of the fuel subsidy, enabling increased investment in vital areas like infrastructure, healthcare, and education.”

“I am disappointed that reforms, which are widely acknowledged as essential by international experts, including Sanusi himself, are now being subtly condemned due to a shift in loyalty,” the minister said.
Idris emphasized that Sanusi has a special obligation to support reforms that are meant to advance society rather than block them.
We implore the Emir to put the welfare of Nigerians above party overtones and personal ambitions.
All parties involved in Nigeria’s reconstruction must be united, focused, and willing to make sacrifices. As a government, we strongly advise respected leaders to avoid using language that betrays public confidence.
Rather, it is their responsibility to promote the shared objective of a successful Nigeria. Our nation is in a critical period; cooperation is required, not pointless diversions.
“The administration of President Bola Tinubu is steadfast in its goal of guiding Nigeria toward shared prosperity, sustainability, and economic inclusivity.
“This administration remains committed to prioritizing the interests of Nigerians over all other considerations, and is amenable to constructive dialogue with all well-meaning stakeholders,” Idris stated.
