Former presidential candidate and activist Omoyele Sowore has refuted the cybercrime accusations made against him in the Federal High Court in Abuja by Inspector General of Police Kayode Egbetokun.
Charges were brought about by Sowore calling Egbetokun a “illegal IGP” in a public statement on his verified X account.
Sowore is charged with purposefully exploiting his verified X account to send messages that called Kayode Egbetokun, the Inspector General of Police, a “illegal IGP.” The allegations are filed in case FCH/ABJ/23/25.
The police claimed that these claims were untrue and meant to incite chaos in order to disturb the quiet and jeopardize their authority.
Upon hearing the allegations read to him at approximately 10:00 am on Wednesday, Sowore entered a not-guilty plea before Justice Abdullah Liman at the FCT High Court.
To protest the arraignment, some of his fans gathered outside the court.

The severity of this regime and the unlawful Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, is demonstrated by this. A demonstrator remarked, “If he were sincere, he would send his men to combat crime, not to harass peaceful demonstrators.”
