Omotade Ayodele, the National Youth Service Corps’ Director of Corps Welfare and Health Services, has urged Benue State corps members to participate actively in the SAED program, which stands for Skills Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development.
Speaking to the corps members during his Thursday visit to the NYSC orientation camp at Wannune, in the state’s Tarka Local Government Area, Ayodele urged them to participate in camp activities and referred to SAED as an essential route to financial independence.
Relying exclusively on white-collar jobs is not a sustainable way to achieve financial success, the director said.
Saying “Good morning, sir,” he explained, “SAED is your way to bid poverty farewell and avoid the aggravation of carrying files around.”
If you leave this camp without learning a skill that will really help you, it will be a shame.
“A white-collar job won’t make you rich on its own. To ensure your future, you must investigate business opportunities and acquire useful skills.
As a “regimented environment designed to instill discipline, patriotism, and personal development,” he emphasized the need of corps members embracing the camp experience.
Ayodele warned corps members against attempting to control their postings when it came to relocation, pointing out that their placement might have a higher purpose.
“Don’t cut off someone’s destiny just because you want to move,” he added. You never know why you might have been assigned to Benue.

“Give it your all wherever you are, because what is worthwhile is worthwhile.”
The director restated the NYSC’s core goals, which are to preserve national integration and solidarity.
Regarding security, the director counseled the corps members to exercise caution and show consideration for the customs, religion, and culture of their host communities.
“Avoid doing anything that could put your life in danger during your year of service,” he said.
“If you must travel, always use designated motor parks and never travel beyond 6pm,” he added, reminding them of the organization’s existing policy and advising them against traveling late at night. This regulation was put in place to keep you safe.
The Director gave gifts to the Quarter Guards, Man ‘O’ War Special Squad, Camp Band, Red Cross Society, OBS Crew, Platoon Leaders, and the Bugler in appreciation of their exceptional contributions to camp life.
In order to benefit all 10 platoons, he also provided large donations for the next Platoon Carnival.
Mrs. Veronica Garba, the NYSC State Coordinator, told the visiting director earlier in her speech that the corps members had adapted to the camp environment and were now taking part in all activities.
Garba revealed that there were 1,925 registered corps members, including 903 men and 1,022 women.
