The invasion by Department of State Services (DSS) employees of the Lagos State House of Assembly has been denounced by Funso Doherty, a former African Democratic Congress (ADC) candidate for governor of Lagos State.
On Monday, DSS officers reportedly broke into the Lagos House, which some have characterized as an attempt to threaten Speaker Mojisola Meranda.
In a Tuesday interview with News Central, Doherty claimed the invasion was pointless and a diversion from the state’s governance.

Mudashiru Obasa, the former speaker, was instructed by the chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to let the legal system do its thing.
As far as we can tell, the lawmakers have united and deposed Speaker Mudashiru Obasa in favor of Mojisola Miranda. The speaker, Obasa, claims that the procedure was incorrect and that he has filed a lawsuit. That is acceptable. Ultimately, everything will be resolved, and the House and the legal system will both continue to carry out their respective tasks.

Now, the deployment of the security forces is a very concerning development, as it takes us a significant step away from the democratic process. That must not be a part of the process in order for us to condemn. Restore the governance process to its usual operation. Let’s sit down and let Mojisola, the current Speaker, lead. “So be it if the courts rule that things ought to be different,” he remarked.

In order to improve the lives of the people of Lagos, the former candidate for governor urged the political elite to concentrate on this issue.

“Lawmakers should concentrate on a lot of different things. The route I should have taken to get here this morning was blocked by a container, so we had to take Agege Motor Road instead. Considering that this is a major route leading to the state capital, the condition of that road is simply astounding. It is imperative that these people concentrate on a lot of things.

“This is all distraction. It is not surprising that people become disillusioned and disengaged from the political process when they finally take a step back and ask themselves, “Is my life better for all of this government activity, all of this government expenditure, all of this hullabaloo in the public space, year in and year out, democratic process through democratic process, election cycle through election cycle?” And we see that in the voter turnout numbers,” he stated.
