The election held on October 5, 2024, for local government has been ruled invalid by the Supreme Court.
The Supreme Court was said to have rendered the decision on Friday. The Supreme Court has issued numerous rulings in instances involving Rivers State, this being one of them.
In a different ruling, the highest court acknowledged Martins Amaewhule as the Speaker of the House of Assembly in Rivers State.

The Court further directed that Accountant-General Lateef Fagbemi seize all money and allotments to Rivers State until Governor Siminalaya Fubara submits budgets to the House of Assembly, which is led by Amaewhule.
