Following a goalless draw with Shooting Stars SC (3SC) in the present 2024–2025 Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) season on Sunday, April 6, 2025, Ikorodu City, a club based in Lagos, was reportedly taken hostage.
After the aforementioned match, some angry Shooting Stars SC supporters disrupted Ikorodu City FC players and officials in the changing room at Lekan Salami Stadium in Adamasingba, Ibadan, as a way to vent their fury.
The players and administrators of Ikorodu City were shown in the video in a darkened room, using the light from their cell phones after stadium management apparently turned off the electricity.

“I’ve heard similar stories in the NPFL before, but this is the first time I’ve experienced it,” an Ikorodu City official said.
“After the match ended in a goalless draw, we are being held in the dressing room,” he said, describing the circumstances. The lights have been turned off, and neither officials nor players are allowed to leave. They have vandalized the team bus.
The bus of the visiting team was severely damaged, according to further footage, and there were rumors that one official was hurt in the chaos. The team’s failure to win at home sparked a violent outburst shortly after the final whistle of the Match Day 32 match.
After hurling objects onto the field in frustration, the supporters locked the visiting players in their changing room. Exploiting the lack of proper protection, the crowd physically attacked one of the officials and damaged the team bus of Ikorodu City.
Unfortunately, there are a lot of violent events in Nigerian football. Fans, club officials, and referees have clashed in numerous stadiums throughout the nation throughout the years.
According to reports, the Nigerian Army personnel saved and led the players and officials from Ikorodu City out of the stadium.
With 48 points from 32 games after the game, Shooting Stars were in fourth place in the league standings, closely trailed by Ikorodu City, who had 46 points from 31 games.
