On social media, singer Eedris Abdulkareem started a challenge called “Tell Your Papa” in response to the federal government’s prohibition.
According to rumors, the Nigerian government had prohibited all radio and television stations from playing the singer’s recently released anti-Tinubu song, “Tell Your Papa.”
“Inappropriate, and offensive” is how the National Broadcasting Commission, or NBC, described the song in a document signed by Susan Obi, its Coordinating Director of Broadcast Monitoring.
Abdulkareem said in an Instagram post that the government’s actions were a “attempt to silence the truth and suppress criticism” in response to the ban.
But in a recent move, the musician posted the “Tell Your Papa” challenge on his Instagram page on Sunday, saying that it’s time to confront those in positions of authority.
“Silence strengthens authority more than anything else,” he commented, sharing the challenge post. Speaking and being silent are appropriate at different times. Now is the moment to speak up and use your voice.
