The 17th Headies Awards featured an emotional tribute by Omowunmi.
The event was held at Lagos’s Landmark Event Centre on April 27.
Mohbad won two posthumous honors: Viewer’s Choice and Best Street Music (Street-hop Artiste) of the Year.
The 17th Headies Awards, which took place on Sunday, April 27, at the Landmark Event Centre in Lagos, featured an emotional tribute from Omowunmi, the widow of the late Nigerian musician Ilerioluwa Oladimeji Aloba, better known by his stage name Mohbad.
Two distinguished honors were given to Mohbad after his death: the Viewer’s Choice award for his work with Chike on the popular song “Egwu” and Best Street Music (Street-hop Artiste) of the Year. Omowunmi gave a moving remark after accepting the honor on his behalf, considering her husband’s lasting impact. She revealed that, in her opinion, Mohbad lives on, particularly through their small son Liam, which is why she doesn’t call him her “late husband.”

Even though Liam is still too young to completely comprehend the scope of his father’s legacy, she said with great emotion that she believes he will eventually realize and value the enormous influence Mohbad had on the world.
“My husband’s younger brother Adura, my son Liam, and the rest of the Imonelization family would like to express their gratitude for this award,” she said.
“Even though Mohbad is no longer with us, he lives on,” she continued. I prefer not to refer to him as my late husband because, thanks to our son Liam, he lives on forever. Even though he might not be old enough to understand the extent of his father’s greatness, I am confident that he will eventually. Much obliged, Headies. I appreciate you bringing attention to my hubby. I appreciate you remembering him and his legacy. It holds great significance for me, his kid, and the Imonelization as a whole.
Omowunmi’s moving remembrance highlighted Mohbad’s music’s enduring impact and the deep affection that still surrounds his legacy.
