Nigeria’s Flying Eagles opened their 2025 Under-20 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) campaign with a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Tunisia in the first Group B match at Cairo’s 30 June Stadium.
Auwal Ibrahim, an Akwa United midfielder, proved to be the hero of the day, scoring the winning goal in the 37th minute. His performance not only gained three points for the Flying Eagles, but he also received the Man of the Match award for his outstanding performance.
Nigeria, looking for a record-extending eighth Under-20 AFCON title, remained composed and resilient throughout the difficult match against Tunisia’s Junior Carthage Eagles. Despite multiple attacking efforts from both teams, Ibrahim’s goal was the difference in a closely contested encounter.
