Funke Akindele, the Nigerian box office queen, has described how she was made fun of for not having a husband after her marriage to music executive Abdurasheed Bello, also known as JJC Skillz, failed.
According to reports, the movie star stated on the first live episode of the “WithChude” podcast that she has always known that therapy is important but has never sought help out of concern that her private life will be revealed online.
Funke claimed to be a strong woman, but she sought a therapist’s assistance after crying while seeing a video of someone making fun of her for not having a husband.
In addition, she said that people should speak up and get therapy.
“I’ve always known that therapy is important, but I never gave myself over to it,” she remarked. I would say, “I don’t want anyone to hear about me,” you know. They will spread the word. However, while I was acting strong, I was dying in silent. At home, from family, at work, and in society, they hurled more at me every time I displayed strength. Many people look up to you as their role model. I have a lot of strength. God, I have that strength. Yes, I would hold my face firmly. You know, after Mum died, I lost everything, including my prayer partner, the politics, the reaction, and the insults.

I viewed a single video. They were teasing me, claiming I don’t have a husband. Women dancing and taunting me. I lost it. I screamed and cried and cried. You need to talk to someone about this, I told myself. You cannot carry on in this manner. You realize that you must speak up?
And I stretched out, and I started speaking. I felt better. I told my therapist things I couldn’t share with other people. And I’m feeling better now. Therefore, I would want to give you all some advice: it is crucial that you speak up. Indeed.
