Head coach Aliyu Zubairu of the Flying Eagles has stated that he is adamant about his squad defeating Kenya handily on Wednesday, May 7.
The encounter will be the Flying Eagles’ last game in Group B in the Africa Under-20 Cup of Nations in 2025. Cairo’s Air Defence Stadium will host it on June 30.
In their pursuit of a record-tying ninth continental championship, Zubairu and his team will advance to the next round of the competition with a victory.
With two games played so far, the seven-time winners were subjected to a disheartening 0-0 tie by Morocco in their last game, dropping them to second position in the group with four points.
Because of these draws, the Flying Eagles are under more pressure to win all three points against Kenya, who are now languishing at the bottom of the group with no points.
“We will play Kenya with confidence and optimism,” Zubairu said following the draw with Morocco.
“We must show them the highest respect even though they have had difficulty in this competition. They are still a strong team. Keeping our focus sharp will be our major goal in order to secure the three points required to proceed to the quarterfinals.

The Flying Eagles’ captain, Daniel Bameyi, acknowledged the difficulties the squad encountered throughout the match as he gave his thoughts on the team’s tense draw with Morocco.
Although the squad got off to a great start, displaying their abilities and establishing control in the first half, the Moroccans rallied and dominated much of the second half, which led to a stressful scenario on the field.
“I think the result accurately reflects the battle we faced,” Bameyi said, praising both his colleagues and the other squad. “It was an intense and competitive match.” We are thankful to God for the point we were awarded. As we go ready for the pivotal game against Kenya, it was vital for our spirits.
