Elon Musk Criticizes Trump’s Budget Plan, Withdraws from U.S. Government Involvement

In a rare public dispute with his erstwhile ally, Elon Musk has criticized Donald Trump’s “One Big, Beautiful Bill Act,” claiming it poses a risk to the nation’s financial stability.
According to reports, Musk, who is well-known for leading SpaceX and Tesla, expressed worries that the law will hurt the Department of Government Efficiency’s (DOGE) attempts to cut government spending and boost the deficit.
Musk, a former Trump ally and significant contributor to his 2024 reelection campaign, expressed dissatisfaction with the enormous spending plan in an interview with CBS News.

Musk criticized the plan in the interview, which was broadcast on Tuesday, for perhaps making the country’s budget imbalance worse.

Musk stated, “To be honest, I was disappointed to see the massive spending bill that undermines the work that the DOGE team is doing and increases the budget deficit rather than just decreasing it.” Musk had led DOGE, which was in charge of cutting government spending and firing thousands of federal workers.

Musk, who previously participated in Trump’s government efficiency initiatives, also discussed the conflict between the bill’s massive spending and his attempts to reduce unnecessary government expenditure.

“A bill can be large or lovely, in my opinion. I’m not sure, though, if it can be both. That’s my own view,” Musk continued in the interview, which will be broadcast in its entirety on Sunday.

The bill, which is currently on its way to the Senate after passing the US House of Representatives last week, has substantial spending and tax savings in addition to provisions that opponents claim may severely impair healthcare and increase the national deficit by $4 trillion over the course of the next ten years.

Musk’s remarks prompted the White House to minimize any disagreements over government expenditure. Deputy Chief of Staff Stephen Miller clarified that DOGE cuts would have to be handled independently and that the “Big Beautiful Bill” was not included in the yearly federal budget.

Miller used Musk’s social media account, 𝕏, to emphasize that any federal bureaucracy cuts would necessitate a separate legislative procedure.

Musk’s comments show that he is becoming increasingly frustrated with the difficulties he encountered while leading DOGE. He criticized the long-standing bureaucracy in Washington, D.C., and said that his own inexperience with the political climate in Washington made it harder to accomplish his goals.

Musk acknowledged, “I didn’t realize how bad the federal bureaucracy situation was.” I assumed there were issues, but to put it mildly, it is a difficult task to make things better in Washington, DC.

Musk admitted that his efforts were not entirely successful, even though tens of thousands of workers were let go and government agencies were drastically reduced.

His businesses suffered during his tenure with DOGE as well; protesters targeted Tesla showrooms, and even arsonists set fire to some of the electric vehicles, which caused a decline in income.

After resigning from his position at DOGE, Musk turned his focus back to SpaceX, where he has encountered numerous obstacles in his attempts to colonize Mars. Tuesday’s explosion of the company’s Starship prototype over the Indian Ocean was the most recent of these mishaps.

Given his political activity and the effect it has had on his personal wealth, Musk declared last week that he will reduce his political expenditures. Musk has already contributed a sizeable amount of his money—roughly $250 million—to Trump’s campaign.
