The Court of Appeal in Abuja has fined Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan ₦100,000 and rejected two motions submitted by Senate President Godswill Akpabio.
After Akpabio requested to withdraw the motions, a three-member panel of justices, presided over by Justice Hamman Barka, rendered the decision on May 21, 2025.
On Tuesday evening, a certified authentic copy of the decision was acquired.
After Akpabio asked to end the appeal, the motions, which were filed on March 3 and March 25, 2025, with suit numbers CV/395/M1/2025 and CV/395/M2/2025, respectively, were stricken out.
Sen. Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, the Senate’s Clerk of the National Assembly, and Senator Neda Imasuen, the head of the Senate’s Ethics, Privileges, and Public Petitions Committee, were the respondents in this case.

On the grounds of mixed law and fact, Akpabio had petitioned the appellate court for permission to appeal the Federal High Court of Abuja’s ruling (Suit No: FHC/ABJ/CS/384/2025), which was delivered on March 10, 2025.
Additionally, he arranges for a stay of proceedings in the lower court while his appeal is being processed, as well as an extension of time to file his notice of appeal.
His plea to withdraw the motions was allowed by the Court of Appeal, which struck them out as a result.
“The application to withdraw the two motions dated and filed on 20/3/2025 and 25/3/2025 is granted, and the motions are struck out,” the court said in its decision. The first respondent is granted ₦100,000 in costs.
The appeal itself, with the filing number CA/ABJ/PRE/ROA/CV/395M/2025, was also ordered to be removed from the court’s records.
