According to Benue State Governor Hyacinth Alia, infiltrators from neighboring areas and across international boundaries are to blame for the ongoing violence in some areas of the state, which she attributes to the territory’s geographic vulnerability.
The governor claimed on Monday’s episode of Channels Television’s The Morning Brief that the state is a prime target for roving attackers because of its closeness to Cameroon, Nasarawa, and Taraba.
“Those who regularly attack the state come in from the borders,” he stated, referring to the shared borders with Cameroon, Taraba, and Nasarawa.
The governor of Benue State added, “They weren’t necessarily Nigerians speaking the Fulanis or Hausa that we know.”
