Omoyele Sowore, the African Action Congress’s (AAC) presidential candidate for 2023, has stated that the government is more terrified of unarmed demonstrators than violent threats.
Sowore reportedly stated this during an interview with Arise Television on Wednesday, while decrying the government’s continuous harassment of nonviolent protestors.
When asked if he believed the administration feared demonstrations, Sowore replied, “I do. I agree entirely. They are more terrified of placards than they are of firearms because they have the capacity to respond to those shooting at the government, whereas they lack the capacity, ability, and plan to stop the majority.
“People in their light numbers carrying placards are more dangerous than people in their light numbers carrying guns.”
In addition, Sowore described the government’s conduct of the treason trial against 11 #EndBadGovernance as unjustified and politically motivated.

He stated, “As is usual of the Nigerian police, the prosecutors in this case came to court requesting an adjournment, stating that the police officer who initiated the prosecution had retired, which is incorrect. He was not retired. He was fired from the police force for misrepresenting his age. First and foremost, the person who filed the charges will face charges within the next week or so for falsifying his age.
“They were probably minors. Right. And because to the embarrassment, they soon dropped the allegations. However, they intend to continue using them to discourage others from participating in peaceful protests in the future.
