The Abuja meeting with President Bola Tinubu, where suspended Governor Sim Fubara, Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister Nyesom Wike, and suspended members of the State House of Assembly reportedly agreed to put an end to their political disagreements, has been criticized by former Rivers State Commissioner for Employment and Empowerment Leloonu Nwibubasa.
In an interview on Arise Television, Nwibubasa reportedly criticized Fubara for going to the meeting by himself without a representative from a balanced group, while all the stakeholders supported Wike.
He emphasized that a more balanced delegation would be better and said that Fubara traveled to Abuja as an individual rather than as a representative of Rivers State’s interests as a whole.
According to Nwibubasa, real peace cannot be attained until the fundamental problems of state economic management and political control are resolved.

“If you are not talking about equity, you are not talking about peace,” he remarked. It is impossible to discuss peace without discussing justice. We should have seen a more balanced delegation if he represented Rivers State’s wishes; nonetheless, that was a concession rather than a reconciliation.
It is impossible to declare a sustainable and long-lasting peace until equality and justice are established. Pushing a man to satisfy the desires of one person has always been at the heart of this conflict.
Nwibubasa cautioned that meaningful progress in Rivers State is difficult if the meeting’s conclusion only restores the political status quo, in which Wike maintains de facto control.
“If the reconciliation consists solely of everyone bowing before the same man, then we have reverted to the status quo,” he said. And peace cannot be achieved that way.
“Until we have a leader who has the courage to take risks, the will to be different, and not the timidity to keep things the same, Rivers State will not advance.”

Nwibubasa thinks that the removal of the unofficial state of emergency may be the only immediate advantage of the current system.
The entire problem has always had a 2027 undercurrent, he said, lamenting that Governor Fubara’s early battle to safeguard the state’s resources seemed to have been lost.
“The same gladiators are going to return,” he continued. and keep making Rivers State that cow so they may milk it for themselves.
He has failed, and we are returning to the status quo, if he is unable to accomplish that at this time. The FCT minister is doing everything he can to win over Mr. President and demonstrate that he has something to offer in 2027.
