Adebayo Salami, better known by his stage as Oga Bello, is a veteran Nollywood actor and filmmaker who has promised not to leave his children any homes or properties.
In a recent interview with the Nigerian Tribune, the actor revealed this.
Bello claims that he has already left his children with the most priceless legacy—education.
The actor, who had two wives and is a proud father of eighteen children, claimed that he decided early in life to allocate his resources to providing his kids with a good education rather than amassing wealth for them.
“I don’t want to leave any properties for my children,” he said. All I need are two homes: one in my hometown and one in Lagos. Share whatever money you find in my account. I have a strong interest in schooling.
The actor, whose career started in 1964 with the late Baba Mero’s Young Concert Party, stated that his opinions on parenting have been influenced by the fact that he was never afforded parental support during his own schooling.
“I wanted all of my children to have an education, even if it was only a first degree,” he continued.
Oga Bello went on to say that he never coerced any of his kids into acting, stating that they all did it out of passion and that he only encouraged them if they performed well in school.

“I didn’t drag or coerce them into the business. Unless they performed well academically, I would always say no when they wanted to follow me to rehearsals. That forced them to put in a lot of effort,” he said.
Regarding retiring and aging, Oga Bello also offered insightful observations about what it’s like to be an older actor and the lack of cultural readiness for old age.
“There are difficulties with aging. Getting ready for old age is a personal matter. In Nigeria, people of all professions don’t take it seriously. I made an investment in my kids. They’ll look after me when I’m old,” he remarked.
