Lieutenant General Olufemi Oluyede, the Chief of Army Staff, has reiterated the Nigerian Army’s steadfast dedication to protecting public safety and upholding Nigerian democracy.
Speaking to reporters in Abuja on Wednesday about the schedule of activities for the 2025 Nigerian Army Day Celebration (NADCEL), which takes place on July 6, Oluyede made this statement.
The yearly ceremony, according to the Army Chief, is a chance to honor current and former officers and troops for their national service.
According to reports, NADCEL honors the founding of the Nigerian Army and the moment the Nigerian Civil War began in Garkem, in what is now Cross River State. In 1978, the holiday was first observed.
Oluyede said, “The Nigerian Army will not give up its efforts to secure the safety of the Nigerian people and the continuation of our democracy.”
According to the COAS, the yearly commemoration allows the Army to highlight its accomplishments and promote closer cooperation with a range of partners.
“Developing the Soldier First Concept: Imperative for Nigerian Army’s Transformation Drive,” this year’s topic, highlights the Army’s present approach of prioritizing professional development and personnel welfare in military reform.
“To better equip the soldier to carry out his constitutional responsibilities, the Nigerian Army has made significant strides in innovation, research and development, civil-military relations, and technological advancement,” said the Army Chief.
Nigeria’s Unity Will Not Be Derailed by Terrorists, the COAS Says
Oluyede pointed out that the Nigerian Army has continuously repelled attempts by criminal groups and terrorists to sabotage national unity.
He declared, “The Nigerian Army has stepped up to prevent these terrorists from destroying our socio-cultural legacy or undermining the integrity of our sovereignty.”

The goals of the 2025 NADCEL are to celebrate the sacrifices made by military troops, advance education and health outreach, and improve civil-military relations.

On Friday, July 4, the Nigerian Army Officers’ Wives Association (NAOWA) will host a charity outreach, a golf tournament, and the commissioning of civil-military cooperation projects in different sections of Kaduna State. There will also be free medical outreach.

The Nigerian Army Day Celebration culminates on Sunday, July 6 with a military parade, equipment demonstration, and the awarding of COAS Commendation Awards to worthy troops.
Oluyede emphasized that the Army’s dedication to solidarity, professionalism, and national advancement is still reflected in the NADCEL.
