Muhammadu Sanusi II, the Emir of Kano, had a close friend named Muhammadu Dallatu, who revealed why the monarch was unable to attend the funeral of the late President Muhammadu Buhari.
Remember that Buhari passed away in a London hospital on Sunday at the age of 82? On Tuesday, he was buried in his Daura, Katsina State, estate.
Speaking to Punch, Dallatu clarified that the emir is now on an official assignment in the United Kingdom and is anticipated to return to Nigeria on Wednesday.
“The Emir will not be attending,” he said. He’s not even in the nation. He is scheduled to return on Wednesday after traveling to London for an important engagement.
Further research by the aforementioned source showed that Emir Sanusi participated in the 2025 Access Bank Polo Tournament on Saturday in Surrey, England, where he was spotted with well-known international personalities, such as Thomas Tuchel, manager of England’s national football team.

On Tuesday morning, however, Alhaji Aminu Ado Bayero, the 15th Emir of Kano, was present at the state funeral of the deceased former president in Daura.
The Emir was accompanied by Jigawa State traditional leaders, according to Bayero spokesperson Abubakar Naisa, who verified the development.
“Yes, His Highness Aminu Ado Bayero departed Kano this morning (Tuesday) to pay his final respects in Daura,” Kofar Naisa stated. “He is going to the burial with the Emirs of Dutse and Kazaure.”
After Muhammadu Sanusi II, the Emir from 2014 to March 2020, was overthrown by former Governor Abdullahi Ganduje, the Kano Emirate was plunged into a power struggle.
