Ireti Kingibe, the senator for the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), has made grave accusations against Nyesom Wike, the minister of the FCT, of grave land malfeasance in Abuja, egregious abuse of position, and impunity.
According to Kingibe’s latest interview, Wike allegedly canceled large amounts of institutional land without legal support and cut his son’s ₦200 million land debt to ₦2 million in 48 hours.
The senator called the move “unfair, unethical, and clearly illegal” and cited documentation demonstrating that Wike’s son was given substantial land allocations, with the minister allegedly allowing a sharp cut in prices.
Kingibe claimed on an Arise TV interview, “I have documents to show that Minister Wike allocated lands to his son… they wrote asking him to give a waiver on the bill and reduce it.”
The legislator reportedly accused Wike of ruling the FCT with impunity, breaking the law, and re-establishing agencies without consulting the National Assembly.
“The minister disobeys legal requirements. When you try to get his attention, he doesn’t take it. He’s authoritarian,” she stated.
He had revoked 7,000 hectares of land from the University of Abuja, leaving it with only 4,000 hectares, which she described as being “against the Land Use Act.”
Additional instances included Bwari land that was allegedly used for commercial development after initially being allotted for a general hospital.
“He’s having a market or mall put on it after he revoked it,” Kingibe wrote.
Kingibe also criticized Wike for firing poor street sweepers without hiring machines to replace them, which left the city noticeably messy once more.
“When he arrives, he has fired everyone. Then he doesn’t use mechanical street sweepers to replace them. Thus, Abuja appears unclean,” she complained.
The minister was accused by Kingibe of intimidating locals and embassies over the enforcement of ground rent.
“Minister Wike has been harassing embassies and the entire FCT over ground rent,” she continued.
Wike’s spokesperson reportedly denied these allegations later, claiming the senator was unaware of the Land Use Act.
Documented reductions of ₦200 million and revocations of institutional land
According to previous investigative revelations published in The Gazette, Wike gave his son Joaquin an estimated 2,082 hectares (₦3.6 billion) while evading taxes and payments. These charges are in line with those findings.
Separately, it has been stated that his second son, Jordan, obtained 1,740 hectares in Abuja worth $2.85 billion.

Kingibe will escalate with the National Assembly and documents.
Kingibe has promised, nevertheless, to present evidence for examination to the proper authorities, such as the National Assembly.
She said, “I’m going to make sure that the National Assembly approves everything by taking those documents and going to the body.”
She said Wike’s office has not responded to her correspondence.
“Even when I send letters, nobody responds. She declared, “Democracy is not supposed to work like this.”
A black SUV followed her from the airport following an oversight visit, which Kingibe described as intimidating, indicating security concerns.
