The Senate has declared its intention to carry out a thorough investigation into recent high-profile airline passenger events that have sparked questions about passenger rights, operational standards, and discipline in Nigeria’s aviation industry.
Senator Abdulfatai Buhari (APC, Oyo North), the chairman of the Senate Committee on Aviation, said in a statement on Tuesday that the developments call for “immediate and coordinated action” in order to preserve the industry’s integrity and rebuild public trust.
According to Senator Buhari, the probe would be carried out in compliance with the Senate’s constitutional authority and will involve important regulatory organizations, public interest organizations, airline operators, and security agencies.
He clarified that the objective is to ascertain the facts, examine current practices, and guarantee the prompt execution of any remedial actions.

“We will not allow enforcement lapses or procedural flaws to compromise public confidence in our aviation system, safety, or professionalism. “Accountability at all levels will be ensured by the Senate Committee on Aviation,” Buhari said.
The committee gave Nigerians the assurance that it is actively monitoring the situation and will steer the process in the direction of legally binding measures to stop similar occurrences in the future.
The investigation comes after two highly publicized cases. In the first, a singer from Fuji named Wasiu Ayinde, better known by his stage name KWAM 1, is accused of causing trouble at Abuja’s Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport when he tried to board a ValueJet flight to Lagos with what turned out to be alcohol.
The artist reportedly resisted following security protocols, which resulted in a run-in with airline employees and, ultimately, the singer’s expulsion off the flight by aviation security.
In the second case, Comfort Emmanson, a passenger on an Ibom Air flight from Uyo to Lagos, was recently banned for allegedly assaulting crew members. According to the airline, Emmanson was taken off the ramp, arrested by security from the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN), and turned over to the police for further investigation.
