The Lagos State Police Command has announced plans to carry out an Improvised Explosive Device, IED, simulation exercise at Eko Atlantic City on Thursday.
The command explained that the exercise is a routine security drill designed to strengthen emergency response and should not cause alarm to residents, workers, or visitors in the area.
In a statement issued on Wednesday, the command’s spokesperson, CSP Benjamin Hundeyin, disclosed that the Nigeria Police Force Explosives Ordnance Disposal–Chemical, Biological, Radiological, and Nuclear Unit will oversee the exercise.
“The command wishes to inform the public that the Nigeria Police Force Explosives Ordnance Disposal Unit will conduct an IED simulation at Eko Atlantic City on August 28. The exercise is aimed at enhancing preparedness and response capacity in the event of any bomb-related emergency. It will involve controlled detonations by specialised teams trained to handle explosive threats,” Hundeyin said.
He clarified that while residents may hear blast sounds during the drill, there will be no accompanying danger, shrapnel, or risk to the public.
“People in and around the area are advised to remain calm and continue with their normal activities,” he added.
Hundeyin assured that adequate safety measures have been put in place for the operation. He noted that the state Commissioner of Police, Olohundare Jimoh, has called for the cooperation and understanding of the public while reiterating the command’s commitment to the safety and well-being of all residents.
