The appointment of five new permanent secretaries has begun at the Office of the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation, with President Bola Tinubu’s permission.
Didi Walson-Jack, the Head of Service, stated that the three zonal slots for the North-Central, North-East, and South-East regions were created following the creation of new ministries, and two of the vacancies resulted from the recent retirement of permanent secretaries from Imo State and the Federal Capital Territory.

Eno Olotu, the OHCSF’s Director of Information and Public Relations, reportedly stated in a statement that the hiring procedure was set up to ensure openness, legitimacy, and merit in keeping with the government’s dedication to good governance.

According to Walson-Jack, the only directors who may apply were those on Grade Level 17 who had been on the grade for at least two years and who had been told by their permanent secretaries that they would not be subject to disciplinary action.

Under the supervision of the Department of State Services and the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offenses Commission, she continued, a Committee of Permanent Secretaries compiled and screened suitable personnel to start the activity.

According to her, “while clearances from the EFCC, ICPC, and DSS are ongoing, candidates also filled out asset declaration forms with the Code of Conduct Bureau.”

Exam, ICT Test, and Set of Oral Interviews
The HOS revealed that the officers who made the short list would take a written test on September 15 and an ICT competence test on September 17.

The third step, an oral interview, is scheduled for September 19 and will be performed by a panel that includes the chairman of the Federal Civil Service Commission, previous heads of service, current and retired permanent secretaries, and private sector representatives.

“Anti-corruption organizations will also keep an eye on the procedure. The President will be asked to approve the final suggestions, Walson-Jack emphasized.

Tinubu has named 26 permanent secretaries. Thus far, it has been noted that President Tinubu has named a minimum of 26 permanent secretaries since taking office.

They swore in eight people in November 2023 and eight more in June 2024.

Eight more secretaries were chosen in December 2024, and two more were confirmed in March 2025.

According to Walson-Jack, the exercise demonstrates the administration’s commitment to bolstering the civil service’s professionalism, institutional capability, and service delivery.
