Claims that Governor Nasir Idris gives government contracts or positions to political thugs have been denied by Abdullahi Idris, the governor of Kebbi State’s special adviser on communication and strategy.
In a Tuesday live interview with TVC News, Idris called the accusations “cheap and baseless.”
He claimed that in order to select only reliable and competent candidates for positions or contracts, the governor goes through a rigorous screening procedure.
“Never, ever. “The governor does not make such an appointment for political reasons,” he stated.
“When the governor wants to appoint you, he checks your honesty, sincerity, and credibility with your local government or emirate.”
Idris emphasized that possible appointees are routinely screened by Kebbi State’s traditional and religious leaders.
“How can a religious leader, a district head, or a traditional ruler suggest a political thug for a government job?” he questioned.
The governor’s assistant insisted that the government does not condone or support violence in any way.
According to him, the government’s top priorities are to keep the peace and draw in investment in order to raise living standards and generate jobs for Kebbi State residents.
