Police in Ecuador say that Jonathan Gonzalez, a soccer player, was killed on Friday, making it the third athlete homicide in the South American nation since the beginning of September.
The 31-year-old, known as “Speedy” Gonzalez, was attacked inside a home in the Colombian bordering coastal department of Esmeraldas, which is rife with competing drug gangs, and caused “gunshot wounds,” according to authorities.
No motive for the crime was given by the police.
An unnamed second victim passed away throughout the hospitalization process.
