Nigeria’s Economic Hardship Not Linked to Subsidy Removal, APC Insists

The All Progressives Congress’s (APC) Lagos State chapter has denied allegations that President Bola Tinubu’s removal of the fuel subsidy is to blame for the nation’s current economic hardship.

Mogaji Seye Oladejo, the party’s publicity secretary, claimed that the administration took over a “battered economy on life support” when Tinubu took office on May 29, 2023, which is why Nigerians are facing difficult times.

Oladejo emphasized that by abolishing the subsidy scheme, the president showed extraordinary bravery that had not been shown by prior administrations.

To be honest, the subsidy was a huge scam. It merely benefited a rapacious cartel and depleted our resources. It must have been done, whether on May 29th or later. “What the president did was to call forth the political will that others did not possess,” he stated.

Those who call the decision “hurried” had to explain to Nigerians how long they anticipate the nation to continue operating under what he called a dishonest system, he said.

“The reason for the current difficulties is that we inherited an economy that was on life support, not the reduction of subsidies. Tinubu is bringing it back to life. “As the elders say, you have to pull a leech out of the skin firmly; you can’t do it gently,” Oladejo continued.

“The Tinubu administration is committed to reforms aimed at recovery and national rebirth,” the APC spokesperson insisted.

Nigerians should be united, patient, and selfless while the administration guides the nation through “stormy waters into safe harbor,” he said.

“We won’t let opposition noise divert us. Unity, patience, and collective sacrifice are what we need right now. Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu would be recognized by history as the man who saved Nigeria at the critical juncture, Oladejo said.

Further expressing confidence in Tinubu’s popularity, Oladejo insisted that if another election were held today, the president would win by a landslide.

Support for the president will increase due to his dedication to long-term changes. In the event that elections are held today, Bola Ahmed Tinubu will emerge victorious. He also denied that Tinubu’s chances of winning reelection were threatened by Atiku Abubakar of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and Peter Obi of the Labor Party (LP), Tinubu’s primary opponents in the 2023 presidential election.

Atiku and Peter Obi are not dangerous. These politicians are outmoded and use resentment as a tactic. Nothing has changed since 2023, when Nigerians rejected them. Rather than offering positive options, they continue to use insults and propaganda. Both men will remain in their current positions, on the sidelines, by 2027. Whatever else they have to offer is dwarfed by Tinubu’s political acumen. Oladejo remarked, “In Yoruba land, we say that you don’t compare a lamp to the midday sun.”
