On October 7, 2025, commercial passenger flights will start operating at the recently built Gateway International Airport (GWI) on the Ilisan-Iperu Remo route, according to the Ogun State Government.
Kayode Akinmade, the Special Adviser to Governor Dapo Abiodun on Information and Strategy, said in a statement on Friday that Value Jet Airline has been authorized to fly on the GWI-Abuja route every Tuesday and Thursday.

The airline is scheduled to leave GWI at 8:30 am and reach Abuja at 9:45 am, as per the flight schedule. According to Akinmade, the return flight is scheduled to depart from Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport at 4:00 pm and arrive at GWI by 5:15 pm.

The airline revealed that tickets would go on sale on September 25 via travel agencies, web sites, and ticket booths at Gateway International Airport.

“The development will give travelers in Ogun, Ibadan, Lagos, and Abuja new options for air travel while enjoying unbeatable facilities at the new airport,” Akinmade continued.

It was stated that Governor Dapo Abiodun had previously said that, after extensive audits and inspections, the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) had awarded the airport Aerodrome Operational Permits in August.

According to Abiodun, the certification was a “historic milestone not only for Ogun State but for Nigeria,” as it was the first time a newly built airport in the nation had been granted this kind of accreditation under the existing regulatory framework.

With an Aerodrome Reference Code of 3C and an Aircraft Rescue and Firefighting Services (ARFFS) Category 6 rating, the NCAA reportedly hailed the airport as a paradigm for Nigeria’s aviation infrastructure of the future.

A multinational logistics company agreed to run two weekly cargo flights from London to the new facility, the governor revealed.

As a start-up, we would also have flights from here to Abuja and Port Harcourt,” Abiodun continued, emphasizing that the airport has also been chosen as a backup landing location for Lagos’ Murtala Muhammed International Airport.

The facility has the potential to stimulate trade, investment, and tourism in the area, according to Abiodun.

“With top-notch facilities, global connectivity, and a prime location, the Gateway International Airport will elevate air travel in Nigeria and be a proud representation of Ogun State’s advancement,” the governor stated.

He went on to say that NCAA representatives informed him that the facility would now be used as “a benchmark for what an airport should be in Nigeria.”
