According to Alex Otti, the governor of Abia State, the South East governors have not deserted Nnamdi Kanu, the arrested leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, or IPOB.
Governor Otti made this claim at a press conference in the state capital of Umuahia on Thursday evening.
“The governors are actively working with the appropriate authorities to secure Kanu’s release,” he said, emphasizing that not all efforts are intended for public revelation.
“We have gotten assurances and interactions that are not for public consumption because doing so could cause the process to go awry.
“But I’m leading the charge to make sure he returns home as his governor. According to Otti, all of the governors in the South East are on the same page.
This statement follows a protest against Kanu’s ongoing incarceration at Government House in Umuahia by Igbo elders from throughout the South East the previous day.
Otti should mobilize his comrades to speak with President Bola Tinubu about the issue, the elders said, accusing the zone’s political leaders of ignoring the IPOB leader.
