In an attempt to reassure Nigerians that the worst is behind them and that prosperity is on the horizon, President Bola Tinubu on Friday likened the suffering they are experiencing to the experience of an economic operation.
The assurance was reportedly given by Tinubu at Mapo Hall in Ibadan when Oba Rashidi Adewolu Ladoja was crowned the 44th Olubadan of Ibadanland.
The President told people and dignitaries that the country’s economy is recovering from the crisis, despite its continued fragility.
“I’m honored and proud to share with many of you in attendance today the good news that the economy has turned around. The end of the tunnel is in sight, Tinubu declared.
Nigerians’ pain, he said, is a necessary cost.
“The pain you are experiencing is a result of a gruesome procedure. However, it is now back to the time of development and prosperity that lies ahead. I’m grateful for your persistence. He continued, “I appreciate your patience and your understanding.
The President and Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde arrived at the location at 2:28 p.m.
His entourage also comprised a number of Federal Executive Council (FEC) members and the governors of Ondo, Osun, and Ekiti states.
At the Labosinde Compound in Oja’ba, Ibadan, Tinubu previously received the traditional Akoko leaf as part of the coronation ceremonies.
After just one year in power, the 43rd Olubadan, Oba Owolabi Olakulehin, died on July 7, 2025, and was succeeded by Oba Ladoja, a former governor of Oyo State.
Held over three months after Olakulehin’s passing, Friday’s ceremony attracted dignitaries, royal fathers, and political figures from all over the nation.
Those in attendance were the Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Muhammadu Sa’ad Abubakar III; Oba Akeem Owoade, the Alaafin of Oyo; Oba Ghandi Adeoye, the Soun of Ogbomoso; Oba Abdulrasheed Akanbi, the Oluwo of Iwo; and Oba Fredrick Obateru Akinruntan, the Olugbo of Ugbo Kingdom.
Former governors, senators, representatives from the House of Representatives, and state legislators were also in attendance.
