Even if Governor Caleb Mutfwang decides to defect to the All Progressives Congress (APC) before the 2027 governorship contest, former Senate Minority Leader Simon Mwadkwon has made it clear that the PDP will continue to hold a tight hold on Plateau State.
During a Thursday interview with reporters in Jos, Mwadkwon, who previously represented Plateau North in the National Assembly before being removed by an Appeal Court decision, disclosed this information.
In the past few weeks, there have been rumors that Governor Mutfwang is one of four PDP governors who are purportedly planning to join the APC in order to improve their electoral prospects.
However, the governor himself had officially refuted such reports, so Mwadkwon brushed the rumors aside.
“I don’t think the Plateau State Governor has any interest in joining the APC because he has repeatedly publicly denied any intention to do so. “He has refused to back down on this issue despite multiple appeals,” he stated.
According to the former lawmaker, Plateau’s political loyalty has always been anchored in the PDP and will continue to do so irrespective of Mutfwang’s political future.
He declared, “Plateau is always a PDP state, and the people of the state know that their love for the PDP is unparalleled, whether the governor leaves the party or not.”
Even though Mwadkwon urged the governor to remain in the PDP, he emphasized that the party will support another capable candidate to win in 2027.
“The PDP would find a capable replacement for Gov. Mutfwang and the party would win if he decides to leave the party and run on another platform,” he continued. The only party where his interests would be met is the PDP.
