Senator Jibrin Barau, the Senate’s deputy president, has promised that in the general election of 2027, the people of Kano State and all of northern Nigeria will strongly back President Bola Tinubu’s progressive gestures and goodwill.
Ismail Mudashir, his media assistant, said in a statement that Barau provided the guarantee yesterday during the opening of his yearly undergraduate scholarship program at the recently renamed Yusuf Maitama Sule Federal University of Education, Kano.
The statement clarified that prominent academic and political figures, including Rt. Hon. Yusuf Abdullahi Ata, Minister of State for Housing and Urban Development, attended the event.
Prince Abdullahi Abbas, the chairman of the Kano State APC; Prof. Abdullahi Tukur Kadage, the vice-chancellor; and Comrade Ado Muhammad Abdullahi, the chairman of ASUU, were among those who praised President Tinubu’s development projects in the North.
Barau thanked the President for granting the proposal to upgrade the school from a college to a university, stating that it had been pending for almost ten years.
I express my gratitude to Mr. President, our nation’s president, the one of whom we are all proud, the one who adores Nigeria, Kano, and Northern Nigeria.
He kindly granted our long-standing request to transform this institution into a university, and we are still incredibly appreciative of that.
He continued by saying that the strong dedication of his administration to education and the development of human capital was reflected in President Tinubu’s approbation.
According to Barau, “the true rain is the one that beats you.” Mr. President has always refused our requests and canvassing efforts. We should love him, but why? We are biding our time till 2027 to fulfill our obligation to reciprocate.
Additionally, he praised Tinubu for authorizing the university’s renaming in honor of the late Alhaji Yusuf Maitama Sule, a famous statesman and former Kano minister, pointing out that the action was a nod to northern history and leadership principles.
“President Tinubu promptly gave his approval to my plea to name this institution after our elder statesman. He keeps showing his admiration and love for Kano and our warriors in this way.
By referring to Tinubu as the “grandfather of the institution” and himself as its “father,” Barau announced that 1,000 students from the Kano North Senatorial District would receive scholarships, with plans to expand the program throughout the state.
Education is the cornerstone of any community. “There is no reason for any young person to give up,” he added, “since I, as a grandfather and a PhD candidate, can keep studying.”
The best approach to empower communities and ensure long-term change, he emphasized, was to make consistent investments in education.
President Tinubu’s initiatives in Kano and the North were praised by APC Chairman Abdullahi Abbas, while Minister Yusuf Abdullahi Ata characterized the president’s acts as proof of his inclusive leadership.
Barau was also praised by Vice Chancellor Prof. Kadage for his “visionary leadership and unwavering support,” noting that the National Assembly’s Deputy Senate President backed the law that established the university.
