Delta State Police Command: CP Abaniwonda gives review of achievements in September/ October 2025

CP Abaniwonda Olufemi PSC intimates the public on some achievements the command has made within the period under review.

He said,

On the antecedents of suspected armed robbers who break into churches, particularly in the metropolis and Sapele and cart away church musical equipment and other items, I want to inform you today that I have since ordered strategic deployment for church security. These deployments are already yielding results, as some of the suspects have been arrested and church equipment worth millions of naira has been recovered. Highlighted below are some of the achievements the command has recorded within the month.

DEATH OF SUSPECTED KIDNAPPERS AND RECOVERY OF ONE (1) AK-47 RIFLE, TWO(2) MAGAZINES, FORTY-THREE (43) ROUNDS OF LIVE AMMUNITION, ONE (1) PUMP ACTION GUN AND A LOCALLY MADE PISTOL: Sequel to series of reported cases of kidnapping/armed robbery around Upper-Agbarho Axis of Ughelli and environs. I detailed operatives of the CP-Special Assignment Team (CP-SAT) to carry out an intelligence-led investigation and ensure that these bad elements are arrested and brought to justice. In compliance with my directive, the operatives on 30/9/2025 extended the investigation to Rivers and Imo States Commands respectively and arrested one Abubakar Musa m” 28yrs at Abajo area, Portharcourt and Yusuf Sale m” 25yrs at New Owerri Area, Owerri on 2/10/2025 and 4/10/2025 respectively. Upon interrogation, both suspects led operatives to a bush along Upper-Agbarho and Oviri-Ogor Communities in Ughelli North LGA, Delta State, where one (1) AK-47 rifle with two (2) magazines, Forty-Three (43) rounds of live ammunition, one (1) pump action, and a locally made pistol were recovered. Investigation their way out of the hideout, the operatives met an ambush by other members of the gang in an attempt to free the suspects already in custody. The operatives engaged the suspects in a fierce gun duel, during which the suspects and some members of their gang who came to rescue them sustained gunshot injuries. Two police operatives also sustained gunshot injuries are presently receiving treatment. The injured suspects were also taken to the hospital, where they died while receiving treatment. Exhibits are in custody and the manhunt for the fleeing suspects is ongoing.

ARREST OF SUSPECTED KIDNAPPERS AND RECOVERY OF VICTIM’S VEHICLE, AND A NETWORK JAMMER: On 8th on September 2025 at about 0130hours, the command received a distress call that a young man (name withheld) was kidnapped at his residence in Ogwashi-Uku and taken away and that the kidnappers after collecting a ransom of two million naira (#2,000,000) shot him in the leg for not having enough money. I detailed the command Special Anti-Kidnapping and Cybercrime squad to the scene. The operatives trailed the suspects to the Ogwashi-Uku bush, where the victim was rescued with gunshot injury. They then embarked on an intelligence-led investigation, which led to the arrest of Chukwuebuka Nka ‘m’, aged 25 years of Nenwe in Aniri LGA of Enugu State and Uche Okechukwu ‘m’ of Amaifeke in Orlu LGA of Imo State. Suspects were arrested at Owerri road, Ndemili North LGA of Anambra State and the victim’s white colour Venza SUV was recovered. Following the confessions of the suspects, operatives stormed their hideout at Agidiase village in Ogwashi-uku, where one Somto Chukwuma m’ aged 18 years, of Ezea of Ihiala LGA, Anambra state was arrested. The suspect took the operatives to another hideout in Ogwashi-Uku, where they recovered their operational Toyota Matrix vehicle with registration number RRT-331-AE and a network jammer circuit device.

ARREST OF SUSPECTED DRUG PEDDLER/RECOVERY OF ILLICIT DRUGS: In a separate operation on 2nd October 2025, patrol team of Eagle-Net Special Squad, working in synergy with the office of the Executive Assistant to the Delta State Governor on Illicit Drugs and Human Trafficking, intercepted a truck with Reg. No. 3BGT 18LG driven by one Dennis Uruma, a 52-year-old male of Igalamela LGA, Kogi State. Upon search of the truck, large quantities of suspected illicit drugs were recovered. The suspects are in custody and investigation is ongoing.

OPERATIVES OF DELTA STATE POLICE COMMAND AND OPERATION DELTA SWEEP NUETRALIZED TWO SUSPECTED KIDNAPPERS, RECOVERED ONE AK-47 RIFLE AND AMMUNITION: Acting on credible information about the activities of some suspected kidnappers, the command, in a joint operation with men of operation Delta sweep on 17th September 2025 at 1100hours, stormed their hideout Nniugbo, Boji Boji Owa. The suspects, upon sighting the teams, opened fire, which was repelled by the teams. In the fierce gun duel, two of the suspected kidnappers sustained gunshot injuries and were taken to Owa-Alero general hospital, where they were confirmed dead by the doctor on duty. During the operations, one AK-47 rifle, with forty (40) rounds of 7.62mm live ammunition, and two magazines were recovered. Manhunt for the other fleeing suspects is ongoing.

ARREST OF SUSPECTED ARMED ROBBERS WHO VANDALIZES CHURCHES AT NIGHT, AND RECOVERY OF ONE PUMP ACTION GUN, THREE SINGLE BARREL LOCALLY MADE GUNS, ONE LOCALLY FABRICATED REVOLVER GUN, ONE LIVE CARTRIDGE: Following complaints received from concerned residents on the activities of a syndicate that attacks churches at Night, and cart away church musical equipment and other items. On 16th September 2025, the Command received a distress call about an imminent armed attack on a church in Ogwashi-Uku. Responding swiftly, patrol teams from Ogwashi-Uku Division, working closely with local vigilantes, intercepted a gold-coloured Toyota Sienna Space Van, Reg. no: EFR150XB, with two occupants identified as: Emmanuel Emiowor ‘m’ (21yrs) of PTI Road, Warri, and Noah Philip ‘m’ (20yrs) of PTI Road, Warri. A search of the suspects and the vehicle yielded the following exhibits: One (1) Pump Action Gun, Three (3) Single-Barrelled Locally Made Guns, One (1) Locally Fabricated Revolver Gun, One (1) Live Cartridge, and One (1) Iron Rod (used in breaking church doors). Upon interrogation, the suspects confessed to being members of a syndicate that specialises in attacking churches. Some looted properties have already been recovered. Both suspects, along with the exhibits, are in custody.

ARREST OF SUSPECTED CULTISTS, RECOVERY OF FIREARMS/BERRETA PISTOL AND ONE LIVE AMMUNITION: On 5/10/2025, a combined team of the State Anti-cult unit, following recent cult attacks in Jesse, stormed a hideout where stockpiling of firearms, ammunition, and meeting is usually held before attacks on rival cult groups usually take place. The operatives stormed Sylvester Street in Jesse town, Ethiope West LGA, Delta State and arrested one Mudiaga “m” 20 yrs and eleven others. During the raid, one Beretta pistol and live ammunition were recovered. Suspects are in custody, and investigation is ongoing.

ARREST OF A SUSPECTED KIDNAPPER/ARMED ROBBER AND RECOVERY OF ONE AK-47 RIFLE: Acting on credible intelligence, on 12th September 2025, operatives of Ekpan Police station apprehended two suspects: Elvis Ebroghro (male aged 36) and Abiola Adegore (male aged 34), both residents of Ometan in Ovwie LGA. During the course of the investigation, the operatives carried out more operations, leading to the arrest of another key suspect, Lucky Ebroghro. During the follow-up operation, one AK-47 rifle concealed inside an uncompleted building within Ometan Community and linked to the syndicate was recovered. Investigation is ongoing.

ARREST OF SUSPECTED ARMED ROBBERS/CULTIST, AND RECOVERY OF A FABRICATED BARETTA PISTOL: On 3rd October 2025, operatives of the Rapid Response Squad (RRS) acting on credible intelligence conducted a targeted raid on a suspected criminal hideout around Basket Market area of Asaba. During the operation, three suspects, Rabbi Godwin ’m’ 25, Lucky Nanakumo ‘m’ 20, and David Igwe ‘m’ 19, were arrested. Upon search of the location yielded one fabricated Beretta pistol was recovered.

ARREST OF SUSPECTED ARMED ROBBER/CULTIST, AND RECOVERY OF A LOCALLY MADE PISTOL: On 1st October 2025, surveillance team of ‘B’ division Asaba in a swift response to a distress call about a robbery incident around the Bonsaac area of Asaba, where a female victim was dispossessed of her phone and other valuables at gunpoint by two male suspects. Working with local vigilantes, the team established a discreet cordon and began a methodical sweep of adjoining streets. The coordinated push paid off when officers intercepted one suspect, Amara Nwako (male, 21), an indigene of Oko, while his accomplice fled into an uncompleted building and a locally made cut-to-size gun was recovered from him. Manhunt for the fleeing suspect is ongoing.

ARREST OF SUSPECTED ARMED ROBBERS AND RECOVERY OF AN ENGLISH PISTOL LOADED WITH TWO (2) ROUNDS OF LIVE AMMUNITION: On 17th September, 2025, a combined team of Ogwashi-Uku division and local vigilantes, during an operation, intercepted three young men riding on a motorcycle. The suspects, identified as Emmanuel Ibekwe ‘m’ 25yrs, Victor Chibuzor ‘m’ (25yrs), and Zakaria Joro ‘m’ (25yrs), all residents of Ogwashi-Uku, were subjected to a search, which led to the recovery of an English pistol loaded with two (2) rounds of live ammunition. Investigation is ongoing.

RESCUE OF VICTIM/ARREST OF SUSPECT: Acting on an intelligence report regarding a suspect who forcefully abduction girls from the north, and keep them in his house against their will, the DPO led operatives of Agbor Division and embarked on an intelligence investigation, trailed the suspect to Oza Nogogo community and raided the premises of one Bila Halili ‘m’ aged 30yrs. Suspect was seen with a young girl named Rebecca Mathew f who was kidnapped on 11/09/25 at Bodinga community in Niger State. The DPO and his team, alongside members of local vigilante, rescued the victim, identified as Rebecca Mathew ‘f of Bodinga Community in Washegu LGA, Niger State was rescued, and the suspect one Bila Halili ‘m, age 30 years of Kosso community, Sokoto State was arrested.

Upon painstaking examination of the victim, the operatives discovered that she had been hypnotised but she stated that the suspect had lured her out of her family home and destroyed her SIM card to make her unreachable before taking her away. Further investigation led the operatives to the victim’s mother one Esther Moses ‘f of Bodinga community Niger State who later revealed that the victim had been missing since on the 02/09/25 and a complaint had been made to the Police in Niger State. Victim has since been reunited with her family.

ARREST OF SUSPECTED ARMED ROBBER, RECOVERY OF ONE LOCALLY MADE CUT-TO-SIZE GUN/ILLICIT DRUGS: On 09/09/2025, operatives of Eagle Net Special Squad Asaba in synergy with The Nigeria Hunters Forest Security Service (NHFSS) led by the Commander Eagle-Net Special Squad acting on high powered intelligence report, conducted a raid operation at Basket Market along Asaba–Benin road Uromi Junction, during the operation a total of twenty-seven (27) suspects all adults were apprehended upon thorough search one locally fabricated firearm and large quantities of illicit drugs were recovered from the suspects. Investigation is currently in progress. Preliminary investigation revealed that the suspect hibernates in the hideout, where they practice how to execute their criminal plans. They are in custody and investigation is ongoing.

ARREST OF SUSPECTED CULTIST AND RECOVERY OF ONE BERETTA PISTOL LOADED WITH AMMUNITION: Acting on credible intelligence related to cult activities within Ibusa Town, on 10/09/2025 operatives of CP-Special Assignment Team (CP-SAT) trailed and arrested one Oluwatobi Olugbemi ‘m’ 29yrs a native of Ikenne – Remo community in Ijebu – Ode LGA of Ogun State but resident at Ogboli quarters of Ibusa town. A search warrant was executed at his residence during which a Beretta pistol loaded one round of its ammunition was recovered. Suspect confessed to be member of Supreme Vikings Confraternity AKA “ARROW BARGER” . Investigation is ongoing.

ARREST OF SUSPECTED ARMED ROBBERS, RECOVERY OF FABRICATED PISTOLS: On 09/09/2025 Operatives of Safe Delta while on surveillance patrol along DBS road sighted a group of boys fighting engaging in Affray one with a cutlass. The operatives swiftly went to the scene and in the process arrested Raphael Chukwuemeka ‘m’ aged 23yrs with one cut-to-size Double Barrel Pistol with seven live cartridge recovered from him. Suspect was taken into custody and investigation is ongoing. In another development, Operatives of Safe Delta while on stop and search duty at Head bridge Asaba, on 10th September, 2025, at about 1030 hours, they intercepted three young men namely, Solomon Offor ‘m’ age 22yrs, Ifesinachi Nwankeze ‘m’ aged 19yrs and Ambrose Ugwuba ‘m’ aged 23yrs, upon search of the suspects and the motorcycle, a locally made single barrel cut-to-size gun, cartridges and a dagger concealed in a bag were recovered. Suspects are in custody while investigation is ongoing.
