President Bola Tinubu’s administration has been praised by Senate President Godswill Akpabio’s media aide Kenny Okolugbo for its approach to combating corruption. He claims that Ola Olukoyede’s Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, or EFCC, has shown an unparalleled degree of effectiveness and focus.
Okolugbo praised Olukoyede’s efforts to tackle financial crimes, including round-tripping and cryptocurrency-related naira manipulation, in an interview with TVC News.
“Ola Olukoyede, the EFCC chairman, has done a lot to combat those who engage in round-tripping and naira devaluation, particularly those who use cryptocurrency to manipulate the currency’s true value,” he stated.
He pointed out that the Commission’s efforts have improved the economy and helped keep the naira relatively stable.
In contrast to what the opposition has said, Okolugbo maintained that the current administration has achieved significant strides in its fight against corruption.
“Under President Tinubu, the EFCC has never been more purposeful. Additionally, he said that President Tinubu was the one who was reportedly corrupt.
He said, “I don’t mean to disparage President Buhari, but we didn’t even combat corruption the way it is being fought now under him, who was meant to be anti-corruption.”
He pointed to the EFCC’s 753 house recovery and its contribution to internally generated revenue (IGR) for programs like the cash-back program and the students’ loan fund as proof of advancement.
He claims that by taking steps like tracking cash across ministries and agencies and deporting foreigners involved in cybercrime, the EFCC has made it clear that corruption is no longer tolerated in Nigeria.
Okolugbo further emphasized the importance of closing financial leaks for economic expansion and the Tinubu administration’s commendable actions in this regard.
As a sustainable route to national prosperity, he also praised the government’s current tax reforms.
Tinubu has done a good job in these two areas, in my opinion: the economy and corruption.
He said, “If you look at the tax reforms, they will become a major source of IGR by the time they come into full effect and people embrace them.”
