Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State has received a petition from the Joint Action Committee, or JAC, of three unions at Adeseun Ogundoyin Polytechnic, Eruwa, regarding what it claims is a delay in the appointment of the institution’s substantive principle executives.
The delay in the appointment of the institution’s key officials, including the rector, registrar, bursar, and librarian, was deemed concerning by JAC and unrelated to the Polytechnic Acts’ creation.
In addition to copies being given to the Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Hon. Adebo Ogundoyin, the Governor’s Chief of Staff, Hon. Segun Ogunwuyi, and the Commissioner for Education, Hon. Segun Olayiwola, JAC made the announcements in a letter written to Makinde.
Com. Adeboje Taiwo, Com. Titiloye Joseph, Com. Jayeola Titus, Com. Olayanju Abiodun, Com. Ojenike Olusola, and Com. Lala Tunde are among the heads of the three unions on the JAC platform who signed the letter.
On Tuesday morning, the letter was made public.
In the statement, JAC praised the governor for what it called his persistence in ensuring that the institution was properly repositioned.
Nonetheless, it denounced the institution’s main officers’ appointment delay.
According to JAC, the appointment of acting management in place of substantive primary executives for the past seven (7) years is not consistent with the Polytechnic Acts’ establishment.
The unions then took advantage of the occasion to request that the governor name the potential substantive officers who would be qualified for those roles.
In contrast to the Polytechnic Acts, the letter states that “the Governor graciously appointed a seasoned administrator, Professor Adebiyi Kazeem, to redeem the long lost image of the Institution by using Acting Management” during the past seven (7) years.
Naturally, the Governing Council, led by Professor Adebiyi Adekunle Kazeem, did an excellent job of promoting the Principal Officer vacancy, completing the application process, and recommending the appropriate applicants. The exercise ended on July 27, 2025, and it was well advised. The Unions also expressed their sincere gratitude to His Excellency, Governor Makinde, for the recent announcement of more subventions to lessen the impact of the institution’s salary increase.
Having said that, the institution’s long-lost reputation—the threat posed by acting management as principal officers—remains intact after seven (7) years. On two (2) separate times, sir, resources were employed repeatedly to carry out this task, but without success. The Governing Council took the necessary action and suggested the potential qualified candidates for the third time that the same resource would be used.
Therefore, the unions request that His Excellency make the list of potential qualified substantive officers public. The Trade Unions rely on His Excellency to make the statement on time. As we anticipate meeting the potential competent substantive officers in the near future, the unions, as stakeholders, will continue to ensure industrial harmony.
