The Nollywood actress Sarah Martins was arrested by the Lagos State Government’s environmental inspectors on the grounds that her charitable endeavors were in violation of current safety and sanitation laws.
Officers from the Kick Against Indiscipline (KAI) task force reportedly contacted the movie star, who posted about her experience on Instagram, when she was cooking for the underprivileged.
She claims the men intimidated and harassed her before stealing the food items, cooking gas, and other supplies she needed to prepare the dinners.
In a statement via 𝕏, Tokunbo Wahab, the Commissioner of Lagos State Ministry of the Environment and Water Resources, responded by claiming that Sarah was cooking on a road median in the Admiralty neighborhood of Lekki Phase 1, which the ministry characterized as an unauthorized use of public property.
According to Wahab, utilizing public areas for private or business reasons could harm infrastructure, impede traffic, and endanger locals’ health.
Although the Commissioner acknowledged the value of altruistic endeavors, he urged people to follow the law when engaging in philanthropic endeavors.
According to the statement, “The Lagos State Ministry of the Environment and Water Resources would like to address a recent incident in the Admiralty area of Lekki Phase 1, where a person was arrested by Lagos State Environmental Sanitation Corps (LAGESC/KAI) officials for engaging in unauthorized activities on public infrastructure.”
The alleged charitable cooking actions on the road median by the man in question sadly violated current sanitary and environmental rules. In order to maintain public safety, environmental preservation, and urban order, such projects must be implemented in accordance with the state’s current regulations, even if the Lagos State Government greatly values the generosity and community support shown by many citizens.
