In order to avert possible fatalities and disasters, the Ebem Ohafia village in the Ohafia Local Government Area of Abia State has declared a ban on the selling of cooking gas (LPG) in its marketplace.
It was understood that the Council of Chiefs and Elders held an emergency meeting before making the decision, which was then formalized in a communique released by Ekeleugo Ebem and the Ebem Ujurueze Palace.
The ban is an unambiguous step to address mounting safety concerns, according to a communiqué issued by Ezie Ukoha Kalu Ukoha, the paramount monarch of Ebem Ohafia, and other community leaders.
Together with the cooking gas prohibition, the community leaders denounced drug misuse, gangsterism, and cultism, among other social vices.

These actions were judged intolerable, and the community’s officials have immediately proclaimed them unlawful.

The leaders asked parents and guardians to regularly monitor their wards and youngsters. Additionally, they ordered landlords whose properties were being used for these illegal activities to either expel the violators or face appropriate disciplinary measures.

“Any individual discovered in illegal possession of firearms will be turned over to law enforcement,” the statement stated.

All scrap dealers operating in the community were given a two-week notice to cease operations by the leaders, further tightening security. For noncompliance, severe disciplinary action will be taken.

According to security data, the actions of scrap dealers and their suppliers have been linked to an increase in vandalism and property break-ins, which the leaders blamed for the ban.
