Chris Nkwonta, a member of the House of Representative representing Ukwa East/West in Abia State, has officially switched his allegiance from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

The announcement was made during plenary session in Abuja on Wednesday by Speaker Tajudeen Abbas.

In reaction to Nkwonta’s defection, Deputy Minority Leader Aliyu Madaki cited a section of the constitution and called for Nkwonta’s seat to be declared vacant.

The Speaker responded to Madaki, noting, “I am aware of a faction in PDP.”
