According to a statement from the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP), its agents have saved nine expectant mothers from an Abuja baby factory.
The NAPTIP Press Officer, Mr. Vincent Adekoye, made this announcement on Thursday in Abuja.
According to Adekoye, one of the huge estates in the Federal Capital Territory’s (FCT) Ushafa neighborhood is home to the baby factory.
He also revealed that a worried person had provided the tip that led to the facility’s raid.
According to him, the victims were enlisted via an internet platform and then imprisoned in an apartment within the estate by an unidentified suspected trafficking agent.
The agency’s Director-General, Hajia Binta Adamu-Bello, has praised the judiciary for the historic decision to convict and sentence one Bishop Kenneth Duke, Adekoye added.
Duke allegedly sexually assaulted a 12-year-old girl who was a member of his Abuja church.
The director general stated that the ruling would act as a warning to others, but he also cautioned that the agency would not spare anyone who broke any of its laws.
As previously stated a few weeks ago, NAPTIP will not spare anyone found to have broken any laws, regardless of status, pertaining to violence against people or human trafficking.
