The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has claimed that recent governor defections to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) validate its warning of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s intention to turn the country into a one-party state.
However, the party stated that the 2027 election would be a direct conflict between the Nigerian people and President Tinubu and his group of APC governors. It also stated that the APC has defended its position about its plan to make Nigeria a one-party state.
Mallam Bolaji Abdullahi, the ADC’s National Publicity Secretary, said in a statement released in Abuja on Wednesday that the governors of Enugu and Bayelsa had betrayed their long-suffering constituents by joining the gang against Nigerians with their recent defections.
Since the 2027 elections would be a struggle between the Nigerian people and the governing party, which has driven the majority into extreme poverty and made life intolerable for the majority, the party insisted that the opposition is not disturbed by what it called the governors’ “political apostasy.”
“The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has long warned that President Bola Tinubu is determined to turn Nigeria into a one-party state, no matter the cost to democracy or national stability,” the ADC stated, affirming the governors of Enugu and Bayelsa states’ recent defections to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
Although it might appear that the APC has expanded its list of governors, in actuality, these governors have deserted their constituents in favor of the ruling party, which has made life difficult for the majority.
The current status of the country is visible to Nigerians. Every single day, they endure the APC’s shortcomings. People who previously ran for office or carried the APC’s logo on their social media accounts now steer clear of the party. And why? as a result of the Tinubu administration’s failures in the areas of insecurity, economic management, healthcare, social welfare, corruption, and establishing Nigeria’s reputation internationally.
Nigerians continue to bear the consequences of these failures on a daily basis, the party said, adding that “food prices continue to rise, jobs are nonexistent, and insecurity continues to choke every part of the country.”
“The only way for the people in a democracy to escape their suffering when the ruling party has misled them is for the opposition to stand up for themselves, put forward alternative ideas, and lead the people out of their plight.”
“This is what the opposition governors in Nigeria were expected to do.” They choose to abdicate instead. Their decision to join the massive plot against the Nigerian people is a historic act of political apostasy. For fear and other self-serving reasons, rather than out of conviction, they exiled their people.
While the ruling party continues to rejoice over these governors’ defection, ADC stated that both the opposition coalition and it are happy that the distinction between those who are dedicated to preserving the nation and those who only wish to board the gravy train has been made even more obvious.
The statement further stated that “the people are waiting and can see.” Nigerians and President Tinubu and his group of APC governors will face up in a blatant conflict in 2027.
