Social media rumors that the African Democratic Congress (ADC) has already chosen a candidate for the 2026 Osun State governorship have been refuted.
In a statement released on Sunday, Bolaji Abdullahi, the National Publicity Secretary of the party, called the reports “false, misleading, and not traceable to any official ADC communication channel.”
“No one has been chosen before the primary process, and ADC does not hand-pick candidates,” Abdullahi declared.
He clarified that the party had previously declared the official date of its Osun primaries and that the ADC was still dedicated to due procedure and internal democracy.
He claimed that the claims that went viral were not from any official ADC channel but rather from unreliable posts and media.
Abdullahi emphasized that until the party’s authorized organs hold the primary, no candidate could be considered.
“No candidacy is valid or recognized until the party’s authorized organs conduct the primaries,” he stated.
The public and party members were reassured by the spokesperson that every candidate would have an equal opportunity to compete.
“We request that the public ignore any and all of these reports,” Abdullahi continued.
Prior to the 2027 general elections, former vice president Atiku Abubakar announced earlier in Jalingo that the African Democratic Congress (ADC) is poised for significant political growth.
In a post on the social media site 𝕏 on Friday, Atiku, who finished his official registration as a party member last Thursday in Yola, Adamawa, made the announcement.
The former vice president posted pictures of himself getting his ADC membership card and a personalized Waziri 01-branded shirt, which gave the short occasion more color and meaning.
