A portion of the African Democratic Congress in Sokoto State has refuted rumors that Aminu Waziri Tambuwal, the former governor of the state and senator for Sokoto South, has joined the party, claiming that there is no documentation of his membership in the state.
According to reports, the organization claimed that Tambuwal’s membership was not officially announced to the party leadership in Sokoto and that the correct procedure for joining the party was not followed.
Party membership must start at the ward level, according to the side led by Umar Faruk, the state chairman.
The leadership claims that in order for the ADC to recognize a new member, the individual must first register in their ward.
The group said that checks were conducted with party officials in Tambuwal’s ward and local government area in a statement issued on Thursday by Murtala Aliyu, the party’s publicity secretary.
The previous governor joining the party, according to the officials, was unknown to them.
According to the statement, the party leadership called Aminu Tambari, the party chairman in Tambuwal Local Government Area, as well as the ADC chairperson in Tambuwal Ward.
According to reports, neither party official was aware of any information indicating Tambuwal had joined the ADC.
According to the faction, the party’s constitution makes it very evident that membership cannot be organized in private or through people who are not part of the ward system.
It clarified that before being admitted, each new member must go through the ward chairman and finish the necessary procedures.
“As required by the party’s constitution and procedures, the leadership of the party in the ward and local government where Senator Tambuwal hails confirmed that they were neither informed nor consulted about the alleged defection,” the statement read.
