Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, according to African Democratic Congress (ADC) leader Dele Momodu, is not like President Bola Tinubu, who is in charge of Lagos State’s resources.
During an interview on Channels Television’s “Morning Brief” program on Thursday, Momodu reportedly made the claim while downplaying worries that Atiku would use money to sway the party’s presidential primary.
Prior to the ADC presidential primary contest, Momodu addressed rumors of Atiku’s financial capabilities by stating that, unlike other politicians, the former vice president has no authority over state resources.
Dele Momodu questioned how Atiku would obtain billions of dollars to buy off delegates, emphasizing that he won the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) primary against Nyesom Wike in 2022 by intelligent campaign preparation rather than cash.
“Atiku is a business man,” he declared. Since leaving government in 2007, he has been a businessman. He has no authority over any state in Nigeria. At least in Lagos, Asiwaju is in charge. I’m not aware of any other states he personally controls, but he has the power to do and undo. Rivers is ruled by Wike.
Atiku is devoid of that. He has been in charge of his company. Where will he obtain the billions of dollars he needs to buy off delegates? They outwit Wike by using strategy, which is why Wike grew distraught. Because he was so certain that no one could match him dollar for dollar, Wike has not yet recovered.
Momodu underlined that campaign funding should not be confused with bribery, pointing out that money is required for election-day activities and legal campaign logistics.
The ADC chieftain also used the 2024 US presidential race as an illustration, pointing out that large sums of money do not ensure success.
It’s not only about money,” he continued. There are logistics involved when we discuss money. Bribery is not what we are discussing.
