Nigeria’s economy is being poorly managed by President Bola Tinubu, according to Adewole Adebayo, a former Social Democratic Party (SDP) presidential candidate.
Adebayo reportedly called Tinubu the embodiment of poor leadership, pointing out that the nation’s suffering was caused by all of his economic initiatives.
In an interview with the Nigerian Tribune, the SDP’s 2023 presidential contender stated that the current state of insecurity plaguing the country does not surprise him.
He called Tinubu’s failure to secure Nigerians in accordance with his constitutional obligation a disappointment.
“We anticipated their behavior to be like this. But the thing that surprises me about Nigerians is how astonished they are by Tinubu. We were aware of their lack of interest in governance. Elections are taken seriously, but government is not. Being the Commander-in-Chief is the president’s primary responsibility. National security is the top priority for any government, followed by public welfare, justice, and infrastructure and development. It’s disappointing, then.
Politicizing insecurity is something I particularly dislike because it may affect our politics through atrocities when you criticize the government in a way that incites terrorists and other criminals. However, President Tinubu’s and his security team’s ineptitude in this instance speaks for itself. “I believe the president ought to be sober and deal with the problems,” he stated.
In his remarks, Adebayo stated that if he had been elected in 2023, he would have implemented good government.
He claimed that rather than being motivated by personal animosity, his criticism of the president stems from his inability to handle the problems facing the country.

“It would be completely different if I were in government. First, I would have had a valid reason to be there. I wouldn’t have kept the mandate for myself. My election would have been legitimate. It would then be evident in my budget and the CEOs and ministers I appointed—people who genuinely care about the people.
At the moment, they are acting in the opposite way. Ego has no place in governance. Politicians are unaware that all of the rights and benefits outlined in the constitution are intended to serve the people, not them individually. I don’t personally know Tinubu, and I don’t care about him, so he hasn’t insulted me. Like I did with Buhari, Jonathan, Yar’Adua, and Obasanjo, I have a grievance against him: since 1999, we have strayed from chapter two of the constitution. It has not been the basis of our governance. My stance is against poor governance, not Tinubu. “Tinubu is simply the face of poor governance right now,” he said.
