The 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) official Team of the Tournament has been revealed by the Confederation of African Football (CAF).
According to reports, Senegal defeated hosts Morocco 1-0 after extra time in the final of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations on Sunday night, securing a second continental title for the Teranga Lions.
Senegal, predictably, dominated the Best XI. Nigeria also received a lot of attention; three Super Eagles players were honored for their contributions throughout a run that culminated in a third-place result.
Ademola Lookman and Victor Osimhen lead Nigeria’s inclusions. Osimhen scored four goals and contributed two assists, frequently using his strength and agility to throw defenses off balance.
Lookman, on the other hand, finished with three goals and four assists while fusing creativity with the final product. At left-back, Bruno Onyemaechi completes Nigeria’s representation.
However, there has been discussion about the choice at home, especially because Calvin Bassey was left out. Many were picking the defender for a spot because of his dominant performances in the knockout stages, notably the semi-final matchup with Morocco.
The finals were largely favored by CAF’s selections at the back. The majority of the defensive positions are occupied by Senegal and Morocco, while Senegal’s control over games throughout the tournament is also evident in the midfield.
•ouard Mendy replaces him between the posts after recording the highest save % among goalkeepers who participated in at least three games and keeping five clean sheets.
Mendy is accompanied by Senegalese teammates Idrissa Gueye, Mamadou Sangare, and Krépin Diatta, all of whom were essential to the champions’ equilibrium. Sadio Mané, who was voted Player of the Tournament, completes the Senegalese team after setting a good example in terms of attack and effort.
The Best XI also includes Rami Rabia and Mohamed Salah of Egypt, and Noussair Mazraoui of Morocco despite the hosts’ defeat at the last minute. However, Yassine Bounou was awarded Best Goalkeeper, Brahim Díaz won the Golden Boot, and the Atlas Lions won the Fair Play Award, thus Morocco did not go home empty-handed.
