The Federal High Court, Abuja, on Monday restrained the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) from releasing the voter register to the Rivers State Independent Electoral Commission for the October 5 local government election in the state.
Justice Peter Lifu issued the order while ruling on a suit filed by the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state.
This is the second time in more than two months the judge has stopped INEC from releasing the voter register to RSIEC.
Justice Lifu had on July 19 restrained the commission from releasing the voters’ register to the Rivers electoral body.

He barred the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, and the Department of State Service (DSS) from participating or providing security for the RSIEC in the election.
In Monday’s proceeding, the judge berated RSIEC for setting October 5 as the date for the election without adhering to the relevant laws governing the conduct of the election.
He declared that the commission violated the provisions of the local government election law by failing to publish the mandatory 90-day notice before fixing the election.
Lifu reaffirmed the ban on the police and DSS from taking part in the election.
