Grok, an AI assistant made by xAI, has confirmed that Joash Amupitan, the Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), owns the controversial X account. This suggests that he is involved in partisan politics.
Recently, there were a lot of claims on social media saying that the head of the INEC used a personal account on X to support or interact with a partisan post.
Our source found out that the account with ID 1567086242164101120, which has caused a lot of trouble, was supposedly made in 2022, before he became INEC Chairman.
Even though the commission said in a statement that the INEC boss doesn’t have a personal account on X, people have kept finding old posts from the account.
To be clear, Bashir Ahmad, who worked as a media aide for the president in the last administration, asked grok to confirm the claims.
He asks, “Hi @Grok, for the sake of transparency, what was the original name of the X account with ID: 1567086242164101120? Was it made in September 2022 and then changed to joashamupitan in November 2025?”
The AI said, “The X account ID 1567086242164101120 was made on September 6, 2022, with the name joashamupitan.”
Grok says, “Public reports and account tracking show that was its username from the time it was created until April 10, 2026, when it was changed to Sundayvibe00.”
A user named @Normalyzed said, “At this point, the Nigerian Senate should call the INEC chairman to come before it.” Receipts can be found all over the news.
Another person who commented, @White_Superion, said, “Bashir Ahmad just set up the INEC chairman in a roundabout way.”
“Like most people who wanted him out because of his religious beliefs. As a loyal party member, Bashir wants him to quit, but he doesn’t know how to do it.
This previous post gave him the chance to say what he thought without upsetting the party.
“Bashir wants him out for religious reasons, not because he is a member of the APC. “Know this and know peace.”
