A year after the demise of the late Governor of Ondo State, Rotimi Akeredolu, the family of the late governor has reignited the feud with Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa.
This is just as the wife of the late governor, Mrs Betty Anyanwu-Akeredolu, kicked against the governor’s plan to organise a memorial lecture to mark the late Akeredolu’s passage.
Anyanwu-Akeredolu expressed her displeasure about the memorial lecture by the state government while she rubbished all his legacies and projects.
Taking to her verified social media page, she attacked Governor Aiyedatiwa for being deceptive about the planned lecture.
She accused the Governor of rubbishing the legacies of late Akeredolu, saying “Lucky, you are preoccupied with rubbishing Aketi’s legacy; you can’t succeed, anyway.
“Anybody close to Aketi and Arabinrin becomes your enemy. Your minions are scared to get close otherwise they lose their appointments.
“Now you want to pretend by organising one yeye lecture for Aketi’s memorial as an entry point to chop money on Aketi’s head,” she said.
A source close to the family hinted that the family had over the past five months commenced preparations for the first memorial of their late patriarch and also sent an invitation to the Governor.
“Despite sending an invitation to the Governor and intimating to him the plans of the family to organise the first remembrance for the late Governor, Aiyedatiwa didn’t inform the Akeredolu’s family that he’s planning an event.
“To make matters worse, he’s also planning to hold his own event on the same day the family is having theirs in Owo.
“Any right-thinking person should understand that the greatest legacy Aketi left behind is his family. You can’t continue to rubbish his family and treat them as enemies, yet you claim you are honouring his memory.
“Why did you not inform the family that you have a program organized already? If they could find you worthy to attend their program in Owo and extend an invitation to you, why did you not extend the invitation to them for your own program? Can you head someone else’s head behind them?”
Meanwhile, the state government insisted that the lecture slated for Friday to commemorate the demise of Akeredolu will hold as scheduled despite opposition by the late former governor’s wife.
Speaking, the Chief Press Secretary to Governor Aiyedatiwa, Ebenezer Adeniyan, said there is no need to create a fuss over the lecture organised by the state government to honour the late governor.
According to him, the state government has intimated to the family about the development and expressed optimism that the family will be adequately represented at the event.
He also assured that the state government would be represented at the event organised by the late Akeredolu’s family slated to hold same day in Owo, his country home.
Akeredolu died on the 26th of December, 2023 after battling with illness, while his deputy, Lucky Aiyedatiwa was sworn in as the state governor immediately.
