Sam Amadi, the director of the Abuja School of Social and Political Thought, has criticized the Nigerian Senate for rejecting Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan’s request to rejoin the Senate from Kogi Central.
According to reports, Amadi characterized the Senate’s decision as an abuse of senatorial privileges in his Wednesday interview on Arise Television.
He asserts that as the National Assembly Clerk is not a member of parliament, he is unable to approve a member’s ongoing suspension.
He bemoaned the fact that members of the National Assembly create regulations but disregard them.
“This is an instance of overreach,” he stated. a misuse of the senators’ own privileges.
“A member may be suspended by the National Assembly, but the suspension must be within the parameters of that House’s proceedings.
“The parliamentary process waiting for a court decision is completely incorrect. The parliament possessed self-control and immunity. In actuality, judicial actions do not halt legislative activity.

The Nigerian Senate has been encouraged by former Education Minister Obiageli Ezekwesili to permit embattled Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan to return to her position.
Ezekwesili claimed that the suspension threatens constitutional government and the rule of law in a forcefully written statement to the Nigerian Senate, the courts, and the public.
She maintained that the public’s trust in democratic institutions could be damaged if the lawmaker’s suspension was allowed to continue.
Ezekwesili cautioned the Senate to uphold constitutional clauses and make sure the senators’ mandates are promptly restored.
