Former Transportation Minister and two-term Rivers State Governor Rotimi Amaechi has claimed that the former President Muhammadu Buhari’s government improved Nigeria’s economic and security conditions.
“President Bola Tinubu was never the right choice to lead Nigeria,” Amaechi said.
The former minister reportedly made the harsh comments on Wednesday in Abuja when the African Democratic Congress (ADC) unveiled its temporary national executive.
In addition to warning that the current administration has fallen short of Nigerians’ expectations, the former All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential candidate claimed he has continuously questioned Tinubu’s ability to lead.
Amaechi made the adamant statement, “I have never thought that Tinubu is a material to govern the country.”
“Many Nigerians are wishing for the return of former President Muhammadu Buhari, under whom he served as minister for eight years, because of the current economic and security challenges,” he continued.
Amaechi stated, “People are requesting Buhari because things were better under his administration.”
Amaechi’s remarks coincide with his increasing support for opposition groups operating under the ADC platform to weaken the APC’s grasp on power in the run-up to the general elections in 2027, according to reports.
The occasion also served as the official presentation of the ADC’s temporary leadership, which consists of well-known politicians such former Governor Rauf Aregbesola and Senate President David Mark.
After losing to Tinubu in the APC’s 2022 presidential primary, Amaechi has spoken out more about the state of the nation and the leadership of his former party.
