Bolaji Abdullahi, National Publicity Secretary of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), has declared the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to be a criminal organization.
According to reports, Abdullahi’s comments come after INEC decided to remove David Mark and Rauf Aregbesola’s names from its official portal as the National Chairman and National Secretary of the ADC.
The commission also said that it would not recognize Nafiu Bala, who is pursuing legal action to be named national chairman, and that recognition of all party divisions would be suspended until the outcome of a substantive lawsuit before the Federal High Court.
Speaking on Arise Television’s Morning Show on Thursday, Abdullahi responded to the situation by accusing INEC of breaking the law and taking sides in the party’s ongoing leadership fight.
Abdullahi maintained that Nafiu Bala Gombe’s tenure had ended with his resignation and the dissolution of the executive committee to which he belonged, and that Gombe no longer had the legal authority to act on behalf of the party.
As the next highest body following the convention, he insisted that the National Executive Committee (NEC) of the party had already made decisions that were legally binding on the party’s leadership.
Abdullahi also charged INEC with acting like a criminal organization and in contempt of court.

“He was no longer an official of the party as of July 17, and INEC knew this,” he stated. He lacks locus, as I mentioned.
“The NEC is the next most senior organ of the party, after the convention, and it has been established in court that the question of leadership is entirely an internal business of the political parties.
Even though he claimed not to have resigned, the NEC declared that the executive to which he belonged had been properly dissolved.
“So, why is INEC acknowledging Bala’s behavior? Since they got a notice of his resignation on August 12, INEC has been aware that he is no longer a party official.
“So why is he being acknowledged? Therefore, acknowledging Nafiu Bala’s behavior implies that INEC is adopting a position.
“INEC has essentially disregarded the appeal court’s order, which is illegal.
“INEC has engaged in contempt, if that is what you are referring to. INEC is acting like a criminal organization these days. And because the Court of Appeal stated that the status quo was maintained, Amupitan is a chief criminal.
